Clear Café
Clear Café gets rave reviews for its creative organic food menu and stylish design. Imaginative menu selections include Tofu Purses with diced apple, onion, tofu and red pepper in a coconut and tamarind sauce and the Lifefood Pizza with a flaxseed and sundried tomato crust, and healthy mushrooms, tomatoes, red peppers and cashew pesto. For drinks, you can’t go wrong with infused waters, healthy tonics and fresh juice.
Kafe
Wholesome raw and organic food is king at Kafe. Start the day with the Macrobiotic Breakfast Bowl of brown rice, steamed vegetables, tofu, roasted seeds, and tahini lemon sauce. For lunch, the healthy Mezze Platter is to die for, with hummus, babaganoush, tabouli, roasted red peppers, olives, feta cheese and pita bread. And for dinner, you can’t go wrong with one of the daily raw food specials posted on the chalkboards. Natural products are also for sale here along with books, CDs and postcards.
Sari Organik
Sari Organik is a small family business dedicated to growing organic fruits, vegetables and indigenous Indonesian rice. Their wildly popular café is located down a meandering path through rice fields, past coconut trees and small bungalow, and features a farm across the road where they get all their ingredients. Try the Tofu Tempura Salad with vegetables and peanut sauce, the Non Dairy Pizza with your choice of toppings, and the Vegan Crepe with soy ricotta cheese in a rice and tapioca flour crepe.
Bali Buda
Bali Buda has been one of the pioneers of organic food in Bali since 1994. The funky restaurant on Jalan Jembawan is dedicated serving tasty food made with organic and chemical free products whenever possible. Enticing dishes include the Live Food Platter, gourmet veggie burgers, and health cocktails like the Dosha Balancing Drink with bananas, almonds and dates. Bali Buddha also has a small grocery shop below the restaurant with homemade cakes and breads, nuts, seeds, vegetables and other natural products. They can also deliver tasty treats right to your door.
Kue
The master bakers at Kue make sinfully decadent cakes, cookies, tarts, and chocolates, as well as wheat and gluten-free breads, chemical-free organic salads, tasty sandwiches and Indonesian dishes. The Falafel Wrap with hummus and organic greens gets rave reviews. Daily specials made with healthy local products add to the already tempting and wholesome menu. Kue also does an afternoon tea every day from 2:00PM – 5:30PM with a choice of decadent chocolates and pastries and locally grown coffee and herbal teas.
Yellow Flower Cafe
Yellow Flower Café is located in scenic Campuhan, and is a bit of a trek to get to, as you have to go up the steep Campuhan steps and then swing a right down a tiny path through lush jungle. But it’s worth the hike for the fabulous organic food and amazing views along the way. Popular menu items include healthy Balinese and Indonesian dishes, homemade yoghurt and pancakes and a divine dairy-free, raw chocolate cheesecake.
Juice Ja Cafe
The small but appetising menu at Juice Ja is a mix of healthy dishes made with homegrown, organic ingredients straight from the owners’ garden. Dishes range from bagels with flavoured cream cheeses, tasty sandwiches and salads, delicious pastas, and sweet treats baked on site. Juice Ja also sells natural products such as organic coffee beans, herbal tea leaves, and organic nuts and seeds. The freshly squeezed juices are a big hit here, as are the organic lattes and cappuccinos. In addition, this is one of the only places in Ubud you can find wheatgrass shots.
Ubud Organic Farmer’s Market (Pasar Organik)
The Organic Farmer’s Market in Ubud is where farmers and green business owners sell organic produce and natural products at fair prices. Peruse the stalls for fresh seasonal fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices, and products such as artisan breads, natural soaps, and chemical and preservative free beauty products. The market takes place from 9am – 1pm at Warung Sopa (Jalan Nyuh Kuning) every Wednesday and 9am – 2pm every Saturday at Pizza Bagus (Jalan Pengosekan).
